Responsibilities

The Backend Engineer will be responsible for building and maintaining the core architecture that powers GoPremium. Here's what the role entails:

1. API Development and Optimization: Design, build, and optimize RESTful and GraphQL APIs that support our app's functionality, ensuring low latency and high availability. These APIs will handle critical tasks like user authentication, payment processing, and data retrieval.

2. Payment Processing Integration: Implement and manage integrations with various payment processors, ensuring compliance with industry standards and optimizing transaction efficiency. This includes handling real-time currency conversions, fraud detection, and secure payment authorizations.

3. Data Security and Compliance: Uphold the highest standards of data security and regulatory compliance (e.g., PCI-DSS) to protect user information and transactions. Implement encryption, authentication, and other security measures to safeguard our systems.

4. Database Management and Optimization: Design and manage scalable database systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB) that support GoFree's growing user base. Optimize database queries, indexes, and data structures to handle increasing loads and ensure data integrity.

5. System Scalability and Performance: Ensure the backend infrastructure can handle high volumes of transactions and user requests. Implement load balancing, caching strategies, and other performance optimizations to create a seamless experience for users across Africa.

6. Collaboration with Frontend and Product Teams: Work closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand feature requirements and ensure smooth end-to-end functionality from a backend perspective.

7. Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Set up monitoring tools and proactively identify issues before they impact users. Respond to incidents swiftly, diagnosing root causes and implementing long-term solutions to improve reliability.
